This is a reminder that the summer 2018 balloting of proposed TMC Recommended Practicee (RPs) closes at midnight on Wednesday, September 5.  All balloting entries, whether by mail, electronically, or via TMC's online voting tool, must be received by that time. Paper ballot forms, as well as 3 email notices were sent to TMC members, with a link to the downloadable set of proposed RPs, were sent to all members with links to the TMC online voting tool, based upon the respective member's classification. TMC's follow up survey on trailer thermal events will remain open though August 18.  The results of this survey and a panel discussion regarding trailer thermal events will be presented at Technical Session #2, from 7:30 -9:00  AM on Thursday, September 20. during the TMC Fall Meeting in Orlando,Fl. TMC's Speakers Bureau has been contacted by Iowa State University regarding speaker referrals for an industrial development "Summit" for transportation manufacturers, body builders and other transportation service interests to take place in Ames, IA in the July 17-18 timeframe.  A poll of these interests indicated that their number one concern is --- CORROSION--- ISU would like to identify a panel of experts to present/conduct discussions for a morning/afternoon set of sessions, and has approached TMC because of the Corrosion Manual as well as our reputation. New TMC Task Force Takes On Alternative Power for Yard Tractors S.11, Sustainability & Environmental Technologies recently established a new Task Force on Terminal Tractor Powertrain options. The initial scope of the task force is to develop a recommended practice (RP) on alternatively fueled spec'ing options for terminal tractor powertrains, and to document the forms of powertrain components available for terminal tractors. At the recent TMC Annual Meeting, a number of new Task Forces were established and several were deactivated as part of the normal flow of the TMC RP Development Process.  All parties of interest have the ability to participate in any Task Force. Please make it a priority to join the Task Force Communities in which you have an interest.  That way, when disucssions are posted you will be notified according to the preferences you set up on your TMC Connect Profile.  We are instructing all of the TMC Chairmen and Secretaries to use TMC Connect as their primary meand of communication, so that everyone have the opportiunity to contribute and participate in the RP Development ...

USA Science & Engineering Festival 2018 Spent today looking for the next generation of technicians at the USA Science and Engineering Festival, held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C.  We'll be here at the show through the weekend.  More than 500 associations and companies are here reaching out to elementary, middle and high school students to show them what career opportunities are available.  Thanks to help from Dunbar Armored, FedEx Freight, Tech Force Foundation and ASE, we were able to put together a booth that attracted more than 1000 kids the first day to experience electrical training tools, and other aspects ...

February 16, 2018 marks the closing date for the current class of proposed TMC Recommended Practices (RPs).  Results will be tallied and reported at the upcoming TMC Annual Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia, March 5-8.  Comments and objections will be addressed by the respective Study Group and Task Force for each proposed RP.  Objections filed as part of TMC's Appeals Process regarding the previous class of proposed RPs that was ballotted last August will also be addressed. For the past month, ATA’s Technology & Maintenance Council (TMC) S.6 Chassis & Brake Systems Study Group, in cooperation with TMC's S.7 Trailers, Bodies and Material Handling Study Group, has been conducting a fleet survey to assess and evaluate the frequency and severity of wheel end  thermal  events in combination vehicle applications.   The objective is to determine if TMC should develop a recommended practice or practices to help reduce these events and mitigate their resulting costs. I’m calling your attention to the new Task Force S.5 has created on “ Cybersecurity Issues”. This first meeting will be on Monday February 27 th at the Annual Meeting being held at the Music City Center in Nashville, TN. It’s important that we get a good cross section of vehicle OEMs, 1 st tier supplier and fleets to clearly define the scope and objectives moving forward. As you surely know by now, cybersecurity is not an option but a necessity to the heavy-truck industry.
