There are 64 active Code Keys in VMRS that can be used to record different areas of equipment maintenance. Code Key 52: Part Status Code is used for comparative maintenance analysis purposes and inventory control. it contains codes that define parts that are new, rebuilt/reman and used. Using Code Key 52 will help fleets analyze part costs and reliability and help a fleet make educated parts purchases. Code Key 76: Reason for Delay contains eight codes used to describe the reason for delay of work on equipment which has entered the maintenance facility

Updates to Code Keys 16 and 25 and changes to various maintenance labor descriptions were proposed. There was a lengthy discussion on the coding for cabin air filters and vehicle wash, resulting in a decision to hold off on the former and move the latter from 002 to 999. Other topics included reordering inspection procedures, grouping related codes, and adding padding between code groups for future additions. The meeting concluded with plans for separate codes for engine oil and filter replacements and reviews of additions to Bulk Product Systems

Using VMRS can make these tasks much easier. VMRS Code Key 82: Operator Vehicle/Equipment Condition Report lists driver descriptions of equipment symptoms though not necessarily what is actually at fault with the equipment. The codes are designed to capture information from drivers/operators for warranty/driver condition report administration
There is a method for tracking trailer size - it's VMRS. There are three Code Keys in VMRS for establishing trailer size information. They can be combined to produce the trailer "master record." There are codes for describing trailer height, length and width. Here is a brief description of the Code Keys; Code Key 12: Trailer Height contains nine codes used to describe trailer height from the ground. Code Key 13: Trailer Length contains 18 codes used to describe trailer length. Code Key 78: Trailer Width contains five codes used to describe trailer width
You all have helped us immensely in attending our meetings this year and providing this task force the feedback and direction to make this potential new VMRS code key a critical element in facilitating a better connected ecosystem for vehicle maintenance. During our task force meeting this week our session was well attended while receiving very positive feedback and most importantly we had a unanimous approval to move this RP Update (New VMRS Code Key) to advance to the Ballot phase

There are currently over 29,000 component codes listed in VMRS Code Key 33, with new codes added on a continual basis. We're quickly closing in on 30,000 codes! TMC has made a great effort to include codes that reflect new and emerging technologies. Many manufacturers work closely with TMC to insure that the codes are correct and up-to-date
This Task Force will develop Code Key(s) and/or Instruction Set(s) of predictive/prognostic maintenance items to be used as a common language to indicate required/needed service items across all vehicle original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), engine manufacturers and component suppliers
