ATA’s Technology & Maintenance Council (TMC) regrets to report the death of long-time member and Council Recognized Associate Paul Zola. Zola, age 69, passed away June 14, 2020, following a several month-long battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer.
Zola had been a TMC member since 1996. He served in a variety of volunteer leadership roles for TMC including as a member of the Mentor, Meeting Mechanic and Sgt. at Arms Committees, as well as chairing TMC's Sign Committee. Zola was active within the Council’s S.7 Trailers, Bodies and Material Handling Study Group, chairing the RP 710 Update Task Force which led to the development of RP 710A, Overhead Door Selection And Installation Guidelines For A Dry Van Or Body. He received the TMC Recognized Associates Award in 2009.
Zola worked for Whiting Door Mfg Corp. in Akron, N.Y. for 41 years, relocating to Hendersonville, Tenn in 1989 as an Area Manager for the company. He was well respected by his co-workers and customers and took great pride in his work and held a number of offices within the trucking industry trade associations. It is said of Zola, “He was someone who never knew a stranger. He could walk up to anyone and start up a conversation. ‘I might be able to sell them a door!‘ "
He is survived by his wife, Arleen (Schoenfeld); brothers, Anthony and Michael (Beth); children, Ashley (W. Taylor Poteat) and Michael; and grandchildren, Caleb, Emily, and Kaylee.
A Memorial Mass followed by a gathering of friends and family will be held at Our Lady of The Lake Catholic Church, in Hendersonville, Tenn. at a later date due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
