TMC Truck Fire Survey Nears Conclusion

By John Legler posted 01-19-2018 10:36

For the past month, ATA’s Technology & Maintenance Council (TMC) S.6 Chassis & Brake Systems Study Group, in cooperation with TMC's S.7 Trailers, Bodies and Material Handling Study Group, has been conducting a fleet survey to assess and evaluate the frequency and severity of wheel end thermal events in combination vehicle applications.  The objective is to determine if TMC should develop a recommended practice or practices to help reduce these events and mitigate their resulting costs.

In order to attain accuracy in the survey, TMC has sent invitations to
participate only to the principal contact in our fleet member companies.  Since we are providing the opportunity to respond anonymously (and most companies have chosen to remain anonymous), we have no way to verify only one submission per company other than to send the invitation to the principal contact.  TMC members can assist us by reminding their principals of the importance of the survey and if the company has not yet done so, to please submit data by the deadline of February 16. In any event, all responses will be kept strictly confidential and only aggregated results will be shared by TMC.

TMC will collate the responses and provide the results to the S.6 Study Group for consideration at the TMC Annual Meeting in Atlanta, March 5-8.

If you have any questions, please contact Jack Legler, TMC Technical Director, Email: jlegler@trucking.org,  703-838-7956.
