This is the fifth episode of Ten Minutes With TMC (May 21, 2026). During this episode, Randy Obermeyer & Robert Braswell discuss concerns regarding the misfueling of diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) into diesel tanks and the havoc it can cause fleet maintenance operations, especially if the vehicle is operated after the contamination occurs. The problem is not as uncommon as one might expect and repairs can exceed $30,000 per incident in some cases. Why is this happening more than a decade after the introduction of exhaust aftertreatment and what can be done to stop it? We'll also discuss the results of a recent TMC survey on the subject and what it indicates in light of recent reports of this phenomenon that came out of the Council’s Fleet Talk at our 2026 Annual Meeting.
